For many years, Postal-Guide has been captivated by the opportunities presented by the United States Postal Service due to its modest job prerequisites and the potential for substantial earnings and career growth. Where else can you attain a $70,000 compensation package without the need for a college degree, prior experience, or even a high school diploma?
As we delved into the postal hiring process in the early 2000s, we uncovered a significant hurdle – the Postal Battery Exam 473, a general aptitude test. Though seemingly straightforward, it bore an alarming failure rate of nearly 80%. The exam itself wasn’t overly complex, prompting us to investigate further into the high failure rate.
After months of meticulous research and testing, it became evident that those who prepared in advance consistently outperformed their counterparts at every stage of the process, particularly during the exam phase. Those who didn’t prepare spent considerable time grappling with directions and familiarizing themselves with the four sections of the exam. In contrast, those who had prepared already knew what to expect and had honed their skills through simulated exams, cultivating a high level of confidence.
We recognized the need to develop an assistance program that would give candidates the upper hand, positioning them for success and keeping them out of the 20% that failed the exam.
And that’s exactly what we accomplished. We launched an online program that provides immediate access to resources upon registration. The program is designed to guide candidates through each step of the postal hiring process, allowing them to work at their own pace. A standout feature of our program is live customer support, addressing any questions candidates may have. This is invaluable, considering the Postal Service doesn’t offer support during the application and hiring process, leaving candidates to navigate on their own.
In April 2019, the Postal Service engaged a third-party to update their employment exam. The Postal Battery Exam 473, which applied to all entry-level jobs, was replaced by four Virtual Entry Assessments categorized by specific job roles. These assessments aim to pinpoint the “ideal candidate”.
Adapting is what we do best. We researched, tested, and revamped our program to align with the new postal hiring process. Our success rate soared as we continued to assist candidates.
